What I See Now

Feature film director is really into iPhone photography

Mark Romanek, the director of the movie “Never Let Me Go,” is apparently a big fan of iPhone photography. In a recent New York Times article, he was quoted as saying, “When a camera of this type is always in your pocket, every moment seems like a potential photo-op.”

And back in September, a Q&A interview with New York Magazine got this headline: “Never Let Me Go Director Mark Romanek on How to Take the Perfect iPhone Photo.” Here’s part of what he had to say:

I use OldCamera and Hipstamatic. I’m amazed at how good these [photos] look, ‘cause it’s a fucking phone. OldCamera is my favorite, but if you get OldCamera, you gotta go into the settings. Those are key: I like the mode to be Kallitype, and I select the vignetting, and square mode. With Hipstamatic, I use the John S. lens and this film stock Kodot. The thing about OldCamera and Hipstamatic is, you can take a picture of a fucking toilet and it comes out like it is something.
